Meningitis ACWY/ /Hajj and Umrah Vaccine

Service Description

Meningitis ACWY refers to meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. It’s a serious, fast-moving infection that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord) and sepsis. It is spread via kissing, coughing or sharing utensils. Who should get it? ✔Individuals over 6 weeks of age who intend to travel to or reside in countries where meningitis ACWY vaccination is currently recommended for travel. ✔Individuals who will be travelling to areas where proof of meningitis ACWY vaccination is required (e.g. Hajj or Umrah pilgrims or seasonal workers to Saudi Arabia). ✔Patients who missed their routine school vaccination in school years 9 and 10, or the catch-up meningitis ACWY vaccination. If these patients are going to university or college for the first time, they must be aware that up to 25 years of age they are entitled to receive the vaccine free from an NHS service provider. Dose: 2 recommended in a 12month period.
