Service Description

PEP is a 28-day course of antiretroviral drugs (the same medicines used to treat HIV). If started quickly enough, it can stop HIV from taking hold in your body. It’s an emergency course of HIV medication you take after possible exposure to HIV, to reduce the risk of infection. When to take it: ✔You must start within 72 hours (3 days) of exposure (the sooner, the better) ✔Ideally within 24 hours for maximum effectiveness. ✔After 72 hours, it’s no longer effective and not recommended. Eligibility criteria: ✔HIV test (during consultation) ✔ Negative Pregnancy test (during consultation) ✔ Normal kidney and liver function test ( can be completed after PEP has been started) Cost Consultation £24.99 + prescribed medication (from £40) *completely private & confidential
